Dr Arfauz A Rahman
Background
Dr Arfauz A Rahman is a Lecturer in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, working in the area of digital manufacturing and intelligent automation. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng, Engineering Council UK), a registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on manufacturing automation systems. Originally from Malaysia and now based in the UK, his experience spans both academia and industry. His work focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practice through applied research and close collaboration with industry. He has also contributed to the development of industry-integrated learning models, including the Teaching Factory concept. His work focuses on translating complex engineering concepts into practical, real-world solutions, particularly in areas such as digital twins, 3D scanning, and data-driven manufacturing systems. His work aims to improve accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making in manufacturing, with a focus on practical implementation in real industrial environments.
Research Interests
Dr Arfauz’s research focuses on enabling data-driven, intelligent, and connected manufacturing systems. His key interests include: Digital manufacturing and digital twins, Intelligent automation and cyber-physical production systems, 3D scanning, metrology, and inspection , AI-enabled fault detection and quality assurance, Integration of real-world data into digital manufacturing environments, Reconfigurable and flexible production systems
